How much does an online store cost?

The store itself is the small part of the bill. What decides whether you make money is the rest: stock, delivery, refused parcels and ads. Here is every cost, what is fixed, what grows with orders, and a realistic budget to start.

Fixed costs: the store

CostOn CODOS StoreElsewhere, often

First weeks3 days free to build, then $1 for the first 14 daysA free trial, length varies
ThemesEvery theme includedPremium themes sold separately
Apps (order form, upsells, reviews…)Every app on Growth and Advanced; 3 on StarterMany apps charge their own monthly fee
Domain (optional)Free name.mycodos.com; your own domain on Growth and AdvancedUsually about $10–20 a year for a .com
Receipt of a first month running an online store: store plan $1 for 14 days, themes $0, apps $0, optional domain, then stock, packaging, delivery and ads
The fixed part is small. What grows with orders is where the money goes.

Costs per order: what grows with sales

  • The product — what you pay your supplier, per unit.
  • Packaging — bag, box, label, sometimes a small gift.
  • Delivery — what the courier charges per delivered parcel, often by city.
  • Refused parcels — the return fee the courier charges, plus the product if it cannot be resold.
  • Ads — what you pay for each order received, including the ones that never confirm.

These are the numbers to watch. Put yours in the profit calculator to see your profit per delivered order and the most you can pay in ads.

A starter budget for your first month

An example for a seller who starts with one product and small ads. Replace the numbers with your own currency and prices.

ItemExample
Store plan (first month)$1 for 14 days, then the plan you choose
Stock for the first ordersEnough for 20–30 orders, not more
Packaging20–30 bags or boxes
Ads, testing phaseA small daily budget for 7–10 days per product
Delivery and refusalsPaid as orders go out; keep a reserve

The costs people forget

  • Orders that are never confirmed still cost the ad that brought them.
  • Refused parcels cost twice: the return fee and the time.
  • Free delivery is never free — you pay it, so put it in the price.
  • Your own time answering messages: a store with clear prices and an order form saves hours each day.

How to spend less

  • Confirm every order before shipping — see the confirmation call script.
  • Raise the order value with a quantity offer or an upsell instead of paying for more clicks.
  • Send ads to a product page, not the home page — see the COD landing page guide.
  • Use a builder where themes and apps are included, so your fixed cost stays fixed.

Questions people ask first

Can I start an online store for free?

You can build for free for three days on CODOS Store, then pay $1 for the first 14 days. After that the plan is monthly, or yearly with 2 months free. The real starting costs are stock and ads.

Is there a fee on each sale?

Not from CODOS Store. Your courier and your bank may charge their own fees.

Which plan should I choose?

Starter is enough to open your first store. Growth adds every app (upsells, reviews, smart cart and more) and suits a store that sells every day.
